Johnnie Sawyer is an Academic Advisor II in the School of City and Regional Planning. Johnnie has over 20 years of higher education administration experience that expands across several colleges throughout metro Atlanta. She has a keen sense of the ins and outs of the field of higher education. She began her higher education career at Georgia State University in the Office of the Registrar and later moved to Georgia State University’s Department of Graduate Arts & Sciences where she served as an administrator for domestic and international graduate admissions, graduate student recruiter, and the BANNER CAPP coordinator for all graduate programs. Johnnie was an Academic Advisor I and Graduate Coordinator in the Georgia Tech’s School of Public Policy.
After her departure from the School of Public Policy, she became the founding Director of Student Success for Atlanta Technical College where she fostered an environment that was beneficial for learning for all stakeholders. Later she became the Associate Director of Advising, Retention, and Counseling Services for Georgia Perimeter College’s Newton Campus. Johnnie served as the Assistant Director of Advising for Georgia State University’s Perimeter College Dunwoody and Alpharetta Campuses.
She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism with a minor in African American Studies and a Masters of Public Administration with a concentration in Management and Finance from Georgia State University. She is a doctoral candidate at Northcentral University. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband Rodney, son Jessie, and her two huskies (Debo and Huck).
