Welcome to our 2024 Multi-modal New Student Orientation!

We have designed a comprehensive orientation program to help you transition smoothly into our academic community. Our orientation is divided into virtual and on-campus sessions, along with exciting networking opportunities, ensuring you have all the information and connections you need to start your journey at Georgia Tech.
We invite you to explore what each of the modalities offers and customize your orientation and onboarding experience.

Virtual orientation

Attend an online meeting focused on course registration, ensuring you have all the details to build your academic schedule. Watch our asynchronous IT orientation video for essential information on using Georgia Tech's digital resources. Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs) must attend a specialized online orientation, providing the knowledge and tools needed for a successful start in their research roles. The GRA orientation is for those who have secured a Fall GRA already. Registration for your respective sessions is required by August 1st. Thursday, August 15 - Optional

  • Graduate Institute Student Orientation
    • If you have not yet attended a Georiga Tech Institute-wide Graduate Student Orientation session, there are virtual and in-person opportunities that can be found here.
  • 10:00AM - 4:00PM: Grad Expo
    • GradExpo is Georgia Tech's resource fair for new graduate students. Held in conjunction with Graduate Institute Orientation (GradIO), GradExpo gives students the opportunity to engage with various campus units and student organizations and to learn about the resources and services they provide. More than 50 campus units and student organizations will be tabling to provide information about the programs and services they offer graduate students. Students can come and go as they please between 10:00am and 4:00pm. 
    • Location: Exhibition Hall (460 Fourth Street NW)
  • Between 9:00AM - 4:00PM: Graduate Research Assistants Students fill out HR Paperwork
    • Location: School of Industrial & Systems Engineering (755 Ferst Drive NW)
    • Students should use this link to select a 30-minute time slot between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
    • Note that this is required for GRA recipients. Guidance will be provided during the GRA online info session on August 8.

 

Friday, August 16 - Required

  • 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM: Welcome and Faculty Introductions
  • 11:30 AM - 12:10 PM: Student Planning Association (SPA) and Student Life
  • 12:15 PM - 12:30 PM: Career Services with Davia
  • 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM: Lunch with Faculty 
  • 1:30 - 2:30PM: Academic Advising with Anna
  • 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Program Breakout Sessions with Program Directors
  • 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM: Drop-in Peer Advising (Optional)
    • SPA volunteers will be available to answer questions about course registration, SPA involvement, and student life. 
    • Location: SCaRP Lounge Commons, Architecture East 204A
  • 7:00 - ?SPA Happy Hour (Optional)
    • ​​​Join a happy hour organized by SPA to hang out with current students and the SCaRP community in a more casual setting.  
    • Location: Torched Hop on Ponce

Networking opportunities

As a yellow jacket SCaRPian, you'll have numerous opportunities to network and socialize with SCaRP and Georgia Tech peers, faculty, and industry professionals throughout your time at Georgia Tech. On the Friday of the first week of classes, we invite you to engage with our College of Design and Institute community at two signature events - the College of Design Day and the Georgia Tech Grad Picnic. Both events are a great opportunity to have fun, make friends, enjoy free food, and get some cool CoD and GT swag.
